Data Consent

The Texas Veterans Commission (“TVC”) is statutorily required to maintain an electronic database (“Hazlewood Database”) for all veterans and family members who receive the Hazlewood and Legacy tuition and fee exemptions (collectively, “Hazlewood Exemption,” or individually for the Legacy component, “Legacy Exemption”) pursuant to Texas Government Code Section 434.00791 and Texas Higher Education Code Section 54. 341.

For each semester, TVC is required to collect and electronically store the following:“(1) the name of the institution; (2) the name, identification number, and date of birth of each individual attending the institution and receiving benefits for the semester under Section 54.341, [Texas Higher] Education Code; (3) for each individual receiving benefits, the number of credit hours for which the individual received an exemption for the semester; (4) for each individual receiving benefits at the institution during the semester, the total cumulative number of credit hours for which the individual has received an exemption at the institution; and (5) any other information required by the commission.” Tex. Gov’t Code § 434.00791. TVC may collect additional information necessary to meet administrative rules for the Hazlewood Exemption. See 40 Tex. Admin. Code, pt 15, ch. 461, subch. A (2024).

By registering, I grant TVC and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (the “Board”) permission to share and access the information that I provide to this Hazlewood Database for the purpose of meeting the aforementioned statutory requirements. I further grant TVC and the Board permission to share such data with any educational institution as it pertains to my eligibility to receive the Hazlewood Exemption.

If I am utilizing the Legacy Exemption, I grant my veteran parent permission to access my information on the Hazlewood Database in order to view the hours I have used.

Registration with the Hazlewood Database is required to apply for the Hazlewood Exemption. However, registration with the Hazlewood Database does not confirm eligibility for the Hazlewood Exemption.
